'Host' was created by Chloe Russell in 2016 as she was finishing her degree in BA(Hons) Marine and Natural History Photography at Falmouth University. 'Host' was runner up for the Julia Cooper Memorial Award at Chloe's graduation show. Since her studies Chloe has gone onto exhibit pieces from 'Host' in various venues in Bristol
'Host' uses bacterial samples cultivated by Chloe that were sourced from the five sensory organs - the eyes, nose, mouth, ears and hands. Chloe photographs her samples and processes them through Photoshop. Each image has been thoughtfully designed as a stand-alone piece or to work as a series. 'Host' was originally designed as a coffee table book in 2016.
In 2019 Chloe began a new project using her self-made toolkit, however this next project was focused on the gut-biome. Collaborating with Epidemiologist Dr. Kaitlin Wade, Chloe designed her third book 'Up Your A-Z An Encyclopedia on Gut Bacteria' which was awarded Book of the Month of Bob Books.
Chloe sees the future of 'Host' printed on homeware and accessories for sci-art and nature lovers.
